The Portland Neurovascular Center is an organization of dedicated subspecialists skilled in the neurosurgical, neuroendovascular and neurological assessment, treatment, and management of patients with cerebrovascular disorders. Portland Neurovascular Center provides comprehensive evaluation and treatment of neurovascular patients for the Northwestern United States. This includes acute and elective tertiary care for Cerebral Aneurysms, Arterovenous Malformations (AVMs), Dural and CC Fistulas, Tumors, acute ischemic stroke, and intracranial as well as extra-cranial stenoses & occlusive disorders.

Portland Neurovascular Center (PNC) is also the home of our Neurovascular Image Processing Lab, the most advanced 3D non invasive vascular imaging facility in the Pacific Northwest. Our lab produces 3D animated video of neurovascular disorders, and also has applications for non neuro pathologies. Video is filtered and interleaved from high resolution MR, CT and angio data. Blood vessels and tissue manipulation can be performed via virtual reality software. In this way, the neurointerventionalist or neurosurgeon can actually simulate neurosurgery or embolization prior to treating the patient. This results in better treatment planning decisions prior to surgery, fewer intraprocedural complications, and improved overall outcomes. It also has resulted in solutions for difficult cerebrovascular problems, some of which were previously considered untreatable.

Location: Neurointerventions (including acute stroke rescue) and Neurosurgery are performed and based at Legacy Emanuel Hospital (about 1/2 mile from the Rose Garden & easily accessible from the greater Portland and Vancouver areas). Our dedicated Neurovascular Image Processing Lab & Clinic are nearby. PNC also assists families with overnight hotel accommodations where needed.

Legacy Emanuel Hospital’s depth in ancillary services are the backbone for the state’s and region’s premier level one trauma and tertiary care center for the critically ill of all ages. These services facilitate unparalleled care for the neurovascular patient. The LIFEFLIGHT NETWORK’s critical care services enables rapid patient transport of the critically ill neurological patient for a 200 mile radius from Northern California to Seattle as well as from Eastern Oregon, Idaho and Utah. Cerebrovascular patients arrive with the same priority as a level one trauma patient. Lifeflight Network uses fixed wing aircraft for distances of 150 to 450 miles, rotocraft for 45 – 150 miles, and a mobile ICU land ambulance for less than 45 miles. The lifeflight team utilizes a variety of life support technology for transport such as Intra arterial balloon pump, portable cardiopulmonary bypass, and high frequency ventilation. The latest in cerebro-protective techniques are constantly re-evaluated & implemented where appropriate. If necessary, a mobile surgical transport team can be en route within 15 minutes of request and help stabilize the patient at the referring hospital.
